| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Angleton are mourning the loss of David |

| 6 | 7 | | C. Bonnen, who passed away on March 30, 2017, at the age of 81; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of C. A. Bonnen and Alice McDonald Bonnen, |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | David Bonnen was born in Houston on January 6, 1936; after |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | graduating from A&M Consolidated High School, he became a proud |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | member of the TAMU Corps of Cadets and went on to complete his law |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | degree at The University of Texas School of Law; he served in the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | U.S. Army Intelligence Corps, and while stationed in Baltimore for |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | an extended period during the Berlin Wall crisis, he met his future |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | wife, Matina Psoras; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bonnen established a private law practice in |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Angleton and served as president of the Brazoria County Bar |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Association; he also served for nine years as Angleton city |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | attorney, and during his tenure, he sued the railroad company for |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | effectively paralyzing traffic by blocking crossings; his victory |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | led to the construction of an overpass that connects the community |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | to the rest of southern Brazoria County; subsequently, he served as |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | municipal court judge for 15 years; throughout his legal career, he |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | upheld an exemplary reputation for honesty and professionalism, and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | when he retired from the bench, the city proclaimed "David Bonnen |

| 25 | 26 | | Day" and named its new municipal courtroom in his honor; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his community, Mr. Bonnen gave |

| 27 | 28 | | generously of his time and expertise as chair of the Angleton Area |

| 28 | 29 | | Emergency Medical Corps and as president of the Angleton Texas A&M |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Club and the Angleton Lions Club, and he was also active in the |

| 30 | 31 | | Greater Angleton Chamber of Commerce; his devotion to his alma |

| 31 | 32 | | mater led the family to establish two scholarships for A&M |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | students, and he was loyal to his high school classmates as well, |

| 33 | 34 | | attending every reunion with his longtime friends; for many years, |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | he was a valued member of St. Basil's Catholic Church; and |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bonnen demonstrated a remarkable work ethic in |

| 36 | 37 | | everything he undertook, and he passed it along to his four children |

| 37 | 38 | | by enlisting them in a variety of projects, from tidying the yard to |

| 38 | 39 | | painting his office; in his free time, he kept up with every Aggie |

| 39 | 40 | | sport and amazed others with his encyclopedic memory of players and |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | scores from decades before; he was also known to indulge, on a |
|---|
| 41 | 42 | | regular basis, his notable fondness for sweets; and |
|---|
| 42 | 43 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man and an admired civic leader, |

| 43 | 44 | | David Bonnen inspired innumerable people through his integrity and |

| 44 | 45 | | strength of character, and he will forever hold a special place in |

| 45 | 46 | | the hearts of those he left behind; now, therefore, be it |
