| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Jerry Birdsong retired as superintendent of |

| 6 | 7 | | Stratford Independent School District in 2017, drawing to a close |

| 7 | 8 | | an exemplary career in education that has spanned more than three |

| 8 | 9 | | decades; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Levelland High School, Jerry Birdsong |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics and history and his |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | master's degree in educational administration at West Texas A&M |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | University; he holds a superintendent's certification; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Birdsong began his career in 1984 at Friona High |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | School, where he served as a teacher and coach, and he went on to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | teach and coach for districts in Fort Worth, Georgetown, Beeville, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | and Junction; from 1994 to 1998, he was the principal of Bovina High |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | School, and for the following six years, he served at Denver City |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | High School as principal; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In 2004, Mr. Birdsong was appointed superintendent |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | of Silverton ISD, and he has led Stratford ISD as superintendent |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | since 2008; a leader in his profession, he has been a member of the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Texas Association of School Administrators Small School Major |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Committee, the Texas Education Agency's Commissioner's Cabinet, and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | the Regional UIL Music Executive Committee, and he served TASA as |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Region 16 chair from 2011 to 2013; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his professional achievements, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Mr. Birdsong has contributed to civic life as a member of the Lions |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Clubs in Stratford, Silverton, and Denver City and the Bovina |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Chamber of Commerce; he is also a valued congregant of Stratford |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | First United Methodist Church; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Birdsong has enjoyed the |

| 32 | 33 | | love and support of his wife, Stephanie, and his daughters, Kasi, |

| 33 | 34 | | Kelsi, and Kammi; and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Jerry Birdsong's dedication, professionalism, and |

| 35 | 36 | | commitment to excellence have greatly benefited countless young |

| 36 | 37 | | Texans, and he may reflect with pride on a career well spent as he |

| 37 | 38 | | embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, |

| 39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Jerry Birdsong on his retirement |
