45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Pleasanton Express enjoyed notable success in
67 the 2017 Better Newspaper Contest, a competition sponsored by the
78 South Texas Press Association, and received its awards during the
89 STPA convention held in Laredo April 21-22; and
910 WHEREAS, Pacing the newspaper was editor Sue Brown, who not
1011 only placed first in the editorials category but who also received
1112 the Chester Evans Award for her longtime, distinguished service to
1213 the association; and
1314 WHEREAS, Scoring second-place awards were Lisa Luna for
1415 lifestyle pages and the sports department for sports photography,
1516 while the newspaper finished third in the general excellence, page
1617 design, sports coverage, and serious column writing categories;
1718 moreover, honorable mentions were presented to the daily for news
1819 photos and to writer Robbie Hamby for humorous column writing; and
1920 WHEREAS, Newspapers constitute a vital source of information
2021 for the public, and through their important work, the talented
2122 journalists of the Pleasanton Express are making an invaluable
2223 contribution to their community; now, therefore, be it
2324 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2425 Legislature hereby congratulate the Pleasanton Express on its
2526 outstanding showing in the 2017 South Texas Press Association
2627 Better Newspaper Contest and extend to all those associated with
2728 the publication sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
2829 further
2930 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3031 prepared for the newspaper as an expression of high regard by the
3132 Texas House of Representatives.
