| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |

| 6 | 7 | | memories of Rubin S. Leal of Poteet, who died on January 22, 2017, |

| 7 | 8 | | at the age of 86; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Rubin Leal was born in Poteet on October 27, 1930, to |

| 9 | 10 | | Sifredo Leal and Rugelia Sanchez, and he grew up with two brothers, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Gilbert and Oscar, and three sisters, Emma, Estella, and Josie; he |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | was the loving father of three children, Denise, Diana, and Donnie, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | and his family later grew to include 6 grandchildren and 11 |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Leal served his nation |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | during the Korean War; after his honorable discharge in 1953, he |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | joined the Army Reserve, which he served for six years; in April |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | 2014, he was presented with the Korean Service Medal with three |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Bronze Stars and the Korean War Service Medal by U.S. Congressman |

| 19 | 20 | | Henry Cuellar at a ceremony in Poteet; and |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Leal was a life member of the Veterans of |

| 21 | 22 | | Foreign Wars Post No. 6970 in Poteet; in his leisure time, he |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he took special delight in the time |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | he spent with his grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family and his country, |

| 25 | 26 | | Rubin Leal earned the admiration and affection of all who were |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | privileged to know him, and he will always hold a treasured place in |

| 27 | 28 | | the hearts of his loved ones; now, therefore, be it |

| 28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 29 | 30 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Rubin S. Leal and |
