45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Cherished memories remain to comfort the loved ones
67 of Betty Ann Peden of Hondo, who passed away on April 26, 2016, at
78 the age of 75; and
89 WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, the former Ann Howard was
910 born on February 10, 1941, to David and Minnie Howard; continuing a
1011 family tradition that reaches back four generations, she pursued a
1112 career as a pharmacist, and after moving to Hondo, she purchased
1213 Windrow Drug Store and operated it as Peden Rexall for some four
1314 decades alongside her husband, Robert Peden; she also went on to
1415 serve members of her profession as president of the Texas State
1516 Board of Pharmacy; and
1617 WHEREAS, Earlier in her life, Mrs. Peden worked as a
1718 substitute teacher at the high school and middle school levels; she
1819 had a lively interest in politics as well, having played an
1920 instrumental role in the formation of the Medina County Republican
2021 Party; she was a county chair for over 30 years and a longtime
2122 member of the Texas Republican County Chairman's Association, and
2223 she taught seminars all over the state on the responsibilities of a
2324 county chair and various aspects of election law; and
2425 WHEREAS, Mrs. Peden was also a highly regarded member of her
2526 community of faith at First Methodist Church, where she and her
2627 husband sang in the choir, and she was a member and officer of
2728 several organizations, among them the Hondo Garden Club and Sigma
2829 Tau Sorority; above all else, she was a loving wife to her husband
2930 of 54 years, a devoted mother to her sons, Scott and James, and a
3031 doting grandmother of four grandchildren, Ashley, Robert, David,
3132 and Ann; and
3233 WHEREAS, Admired for her intelligence, her civic engagement,
3334 and her kind and thoughtful nature, Ann Peden will be deeply missed,
3435 and she will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who
3536 were fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it
3637 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3738 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Betty Ann Peden and
3839 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
3940 husband, Bob Peden; to her sons, Scott Peden and his wife, Kari, and
4041 James Peden and his wife, Kim; to her grandchildren, Ashley,
4142 Robert, David, and Ann Peden; to her sister, Rebecca Harris, and her
4243 husband, Frank; to her brother, David Lee Howard; and to her other
4344 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4647 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Betty Ann
4748 Peden.
