5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Cherished memories remain to comfort the loved ones |

6 | 7 | | of Betty Ann Peden of Hondo, who passed away on April 26, 2016, at |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, the former Ann Howard was |
---|
9 | 10 | | born on February 10, 1941, to David and Minnie Howard; continuing a |
---|
10 | 11 | | family tradition that reaches back four generations, she pursued a |
---|
11 | 12 | | career as a pharmacist, and after moving to Hondo, she purchased |
---|
12 | 13 | | Windrow Drug Store and operated it as Peden Rexall for some four |
---|
13 | 14 | | decades alongside her husband, Robert Peden; she also went on to |
---|
14 | 15 | | serve members of her profession as president of the Texas State |
---|
15 | 16 | | Board of Pharmacy; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Earlier in her life, Mrs. Peden worked as a |
---|
17 | 18 | | substitute teacher at the high school and middle school levels; she |
---|
18 | 19 | | had a lively interest in politics as well, having played an |
---|
19 | 20 | | instrumental role in the formation of the Medina County Republican |
---|
20 | 21 | | Party; she was a county chair for over 30 years and a longtime |
---|
21 | 22 | | member of the Texas Republican County Chairman's Association, and |
---|
22 | 23 | | she taught seminars all over the state on the responsibilities of a |
---|
23 | 24 | | county chair and various aspects of election law; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Peden was also a highly regarded member of her |
---|
25 | 26 | | community of faith at First Methodist Church, where she and her |
---|
26 | 27 | | husband sang in the choir, and she was a member and officer of |
---|
27 | 28 | | several organizations, among them the Hondo Garden Club and Sigma |
---|
28 | 29 | | Tau Sorority; above all else, she was a loving wife to her husband |
---|
29 | 30 | | of 54 years, a devoted mother to her sons, Scott and James, and a |
---|
30 | 31 | | doting grandmother of four grandchildren, Ashley, Robert, David, |
---|
31 | 32 | | and Ann; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Admired for her intelligence, her civic engagement, |
---|
33 | 34 | | and her kind and thoughtful nature, Ann Peden will be deeply missed, |
---|
34 | 35 | | and she will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who |
---|
35 | 36 | | were fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Betty Ann Peden and |

38 | 39 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her |

39 | 40 | | husband, Bob Peden; to her sons, Scott Peden and his wife, Kari, and |

40 | 41 | | James Peden and his wife, Kim; to her grandchildren, Ashley, |
