 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
 memories of Alvin Clement Michalik of Rhineland, who died on March
 12, 2017, at the age of 88; and
 WHEREAS, "Mitch" Michalik was born in Rhineland on November
 1, 1928, and graduated from his hometown high school in 1947; in
 January 1951, he was joined in matrimony to Mary Magdalen Homer, and
 "Mag and Mitch" shared more than half a century of happiness before
 her passing in 2007; and
 WHEREAS, Two weeks after his wedding, Mr. Michalik entered
 the U.S. Army; during his active duty in Korea, he took part in the
 battle for the Haean-myon Valley, also known as the Punchbowl,
 where he commanded two 50mm Quad Track gunnery tracks not far from
 the 38th Parallel and endured nightly mortar attacks; and
 WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life in 1953, Mr. Michalik and
 his wife settled in Rhineland, where he made his living as a paint
 contractor; he was the proud father of four children, Donna, Donny,
 David, and Doug, and later in life he was blessed with three
 grandchildren, Jordan, Joey, and Maddie; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Michalik was active in St. Joseph's Parish,
 where he enjoyed singing in the choir; he was also a lifelong member
 of the Knights of Columbus, and he often helped to book the bands
 for the community's Rhineland Dances; he played in an ensemble
 himself, the Lone Star Band, and he took special delight in
 jitterbugging with his wife; and
 WHEREAS, A loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather,
 and a generous and lively friend, Mitch Michalik lived a rich and
 purposeful life, and he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to
 inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Alvin Clement
 Michalik and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his
 passing; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alvin
 Michalik.
