| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |

| 6 | 7 | | memories of Alvin Clement Michalik of Rhineland, who died on March |

| 7 | 8 | | 12, 2017, at the age of 88; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, "Mitch" Michalik was born in Rhineland on November |

| 9 | 10 | | 1, 1928, and graduated from his hometown high school in 1947; in |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | January 1951, he was joined in matrimony to Mary Magdalen Homer, and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | "Mag and Mitch" shared more than half a century of happiness before |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | her passing in 2007; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Two weeks after his wedding, Mr. Michalik entered |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the U.S. Army; during his active duty in Korea, he took part in the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | battle for the Haean-myon Valley, also known as the Punchbowl, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | where he commanded two 50mm Quad Track gunnery tracks not far from |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | the 38th Parallel and endured nightly mortar attacks; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life in 1953, Mr. Michalik and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | his wife settled in Rhineland, where he made his living as a paint |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | contractor; he was the proud father of four children, Donna, Donny, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | David, and Doug, and later in life he was blessed with three |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | grandchildren, Jordan, Joey, and Maddie; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Michalik was active in St. Joseph's Parish, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | where he enjoyed singing in the choir; he was also a lifelong member |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | of the Knights of Columbus, and he often helped to book the bands |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | for the community's Rhineland Dances; he played in an ensemble |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | himself, the Lone Star Band, and he took special delight in |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | jitterbugging with his wife; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, A loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | and a generous and lively friend, Mitch Michalik lived a rich and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | purposeful life, and he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Alvin Clement |
