56 WHEREAS, Rachel Dunnam has ably served her fellow Texans as
67 director of environmental affairs in the office of State
78 Representative Charlie Geren and as assistant clerk for the House
89 Administration Committee during the 85th Regular Session; and
910 WHEREAS, Ms. Dunnam's resourcefulness, initiative, and able
1011 handling of her responsibilities have earned the appreciation of
1112 both her colleagues and members of the committee and have
1213 contributed to the work of addressing issues that face citizens
1314 across the Lone Star State; and
1415 WHEREAS, A rising junior at The University of Texas at
1516 Austin, Ms. Dunnam is majoring in business and marketing and
1617 pursuing a certificate in business and public policy, and in spite
1718 of being tasked with a roster of duties that include washing the
1819 office's dirty dishes and filing the representative's personal
1920 financial statements, she has maintained a 3.9 grade point average
2021 during the legislative session; and
2122 WHEREAS, Together with recognizing Ms. Dunnam for her
2223 service to the Texas Legislature, this resolution will also serve
2324 to right a longstanding wrong; in 2005, the 79th Texas Legislature
2425 passed the now infamous "Cupcake Amendment," which was named
2526 "Lauren's Law" after Ms. Dunnam's sister; in truth, the idea for the
2627 law was Rachel Dunnam's, not her sister's, so today we pass
2728 "Rachel's Resolution," which is not as good as "Rachel's Law," but
2829 it will have to do; and
2930 WHEREAS, In spite of this injustice, this esteemed public
3031 employee has performed her duties with skill and dedication, and
3132 she is indeed deserving of special recognition for her fine work;
3233 now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby commend Rachel Dunnam for her service as
3536 director of environmental affairs in the office of State
3637 Representative Charlie Geren and as assistant clerk for the House
3738 Administration Committee and extend to her sincere best wishes for
3839 continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of "Rachel's Resolution" be
