| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement |

| 6 | 7 | | Systems is a nonprofit association focused on the goals of |

| 7 | 8 | | protecting public employee retirement systems in Texas and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | promoting quality management of the systems by providing members |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | with outstanding educational programs; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Since it was chartered, TEXPERS has provided forums |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | for discussing state and national legislative issues that affect |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Texas pension systems; it has also supplied important information |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | on retirement system administration, benefit design, and federal |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | programs relating to public pensions; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, TEXPERS has assumed the task of improving the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | management and administration of retirement systems through the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | creation of certified training for trustees; moreover, it is |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | dedicated to helping ensure the actuarial integrity of systems and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | to addressing other important concerns; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, This voluntary statewide organization has grown |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | extensively over the past 28 years; currently, its members are |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | public retirement systems that represent nearly 350,000 active and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | retired public employees, including police officers, firefighters, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | and employees of municipalities, utility districts, transit |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | systems, hospital districts, appraisal districts, and port and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | river authorities from all areas of the state; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Firms that provide professional services to public |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | pension funds belong to TEXPERS as associate members; these include |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | actuarial, consulting, and law firms and banks and investment |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | management companies; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through its annual conference, which in 2017 was |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | held in Austin on April 9-12, TEXPERS offers training for trustees |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | and administrators, opportunities for communication among the |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | diverse parties interested in public retirement plans, and |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | information critical to the protection of public pension systems |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | and the employees they cover; and |

| 37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, TEXPERS has an outstanding record of achievements, |

| 38 | 39 | | and it is to be commended for the crucial role it plays in promoting |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | the sound condition of vital public funds; now, therefore, be it |

| 40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 41 | 42 | | Legislature hereby recognize the Texas Association of Public |
|---|
| 42 | 43 | | Employee Retirement Systems and extend to its members sincere best |

| 43 | 44 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
