H.R. No. 2684 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the death of British Army Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) David Grafton Hannam on May 28, 2016, at the age of 75; and WHEREAS, David Hannam was born on April 29, 1941, in Sheffield, England, to Mary and Joseph Hannam; an active child, he loved adventure and counted swimming and rugby among his favorite pastimes; commissioned into the British Army at the age of 20, he served in Borneo and Hong Kong before returning to England, where he served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers before spending most of his career in the Royal Army Pay Corps; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hannam and his family lived on bases in England and Germany, and in the 1980s, he served as British Exchange Officer with the U.S. Army Finance Corps in Indianapolis, where he and his family made many close friends; following his return to England at the rank of lieutenant colonel, he served with the Ministry of Defense in Whitehall, the Parachute Regiment in Aldershot, and the Royal Army Pay Corps in Winchester before retiring; and WHEREAS, After his return to civilian life, Mr. Hannam helped to manage the British Army payroll contract for EDS, and in 2000, he and his wife moved to Texas to be close to their grandchildren; he worked for another 14 years with the Technology Department of the Frisco Independent School District, and he played an instrumental role in setting up the many new schools the district opened during that period to keep pace with the city's rapidly growing population; and WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Hannam enjoyed fine dining, traveling, and trains; he was handy with his toolbox and enjoyed working on cars, and after following Formula One racing for years, he learned to love NASCAR when he settled in Texas; most of all, he delighted in the time he spent with his wife of more than 50 years, Janet, his daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, William David Hamilton, and his two grandsons, Maxwell and Benjamin; a man of profound religious faith, he was a founding member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Frisco; and WHEREAS, David Hannam was cherished for the unfailing kindness, good humor, and purposefulness with which he lived his life, and those who were blessed to share in his love and affection will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) David Hannam and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David Grafton Hannam.
