| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |

| 6 | 7 | | those saddened by the passing of Lilia Pena of Hebbronville on May |

| 7 | 8 | | 14, 2017, at the age of 85; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Hebbronville on May 1, 1932, Lilia Pena was |

| 9 | 10 | | the daughter of Jesus J. and Olivia Cadena Pena; she enjoyed a |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | 40-year tenure with Jim Hogg County, having begun her career as a |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | typist in the county clerk's office in 1953; she went on to serve as |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | deputy and chief deputy in that office for many years before being |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | elected county and district clerk in 1974, and she fulfilled the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | duties of that position for five terms until her retirement in 1994; |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Pena lovingly raised a daughter, Fantina, and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | she also took great pride in her two grandchildren and six |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | great-grandchildren; a woman of strong faith, she was a lifelong |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of Hebbronville and |

| 20 | 21 | | its affiliated organization, La Sociedad de Josefa Ortiz de |

| 21 | 22 | | DomÃnguez; and |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Although Lilia Pena is deeply missed, those who were |

| 23 | 24 | | privileged to share in her love and friendship will forever |

| 24 | 25 | | remember her with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lilia Pena and extend |

| 29 | 30 | | Fantina Garcia, and her husband, Victor; to her grandchildren, |
