5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Glen Clay Richardson of Sonora on October 4, 2016, at the |

7 | 8 | | age of 90; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Verlew and Esther Richardson, Glen |
---|
9 | 10 | | Richardson was born in Sonora on December 2, 1925; he graduated from |
---|
10 | 11 | | Sonora High School and went on to attend Texas A&M University, where |
---|
11 | 12 | | he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, the Aggie Band, and the |
---|
12 | 13 | | livestock judging team; moreover, he excelled in track and field |
---|
13 | 14 | | and won the conference high jump championship; coming of age during |
---|
14 | 15 | | World War II, he interrupted his education to enlist in the United |
---|
15 | 16 | | States Navy, and after serving his country, he completed his |
---|
16 | 17 | | bachelor's degree in animal husbandry; he made many lasting |
---|
17 | 18 | | friendships during his years at A&M; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Richardson taught classes at the Texas A&M |
---|
19 | 20 | | Adjunct campus in Junction and began ranching in Edwards County; in |
---|
20 | 21 | | 1954, he married the love of his life, the former Rosalie Friend; |
---|
21 | 22 | | they were blessed with twin sons, Wade and Wesley, and their family |
---|
22 | 23 | | later grew to include three grandchildren, Kyle, Clay, and Codi, as |
---|
23 | 24 | | well as great-grandchildren, West, Sailor, Kyle, Brynn, and Walker; |
---|
24 | 25 | | friendly and generous to all, the Richardsons welcomed countless |
---|
25 | 26 | | guests to their Rocksprings Ranch through the years, particularly |
---|
26 | 27 | | at their annual Fourth of July weekend gathering; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, For a half century, Mr. Richardson devoted himself |
---|
28 | 29 | | to refining his Hereford cattle and Angora goat herds, and he took |
---|
29 | 30 | | special pride in marketing his Champion F-1 Braford heifers at |
---|
30 | 31 | | select sales across the state; he was a member of the Texas Sheep |
---|
31 | 32 | | and Goat Raisers Association and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle |
---|
32 | 33 | | Raisers Association; a respected member of the community, he served |
---|
33 | 34 | | as a trustee of the Federal Land Bank and Sonora Bank, and he was a |
---|
34 | 35 | | lifelong member of the Sonora First United Methodist Church; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Glen Richardson treasured the time he spent in the |
---|
36 | 37 | | company of his family and friends, and those he leaves behind will |
---|
37 | 38 | | forever cherish their memories of this kind and caring man; now, |
---|
38 | 39 | | therefore, be it |

39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Glen Clay Richardson |

41 | 42 | | and extend deepest condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be |
