H.R. No. 2700 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Raymondville lost one of its most admired civic leaders with the untimely passing of former mayor Orlando A. Correa on April 16, 2017, at the age of 54; and WHEREAS, The son of Octavio and Alicia Correa, "Lonnie" Correa was born in Raymondville on May 22, 1962, and grew up with the companionship of four siblings, Adrian, Omar, Dodie, and Liz; he graduated from Raymondville High School in 1980 and went on to earn master's degrees in counseling and school administration from Texas A&M University--Kingsville; and WHEREAS, Mr. Correa enjoyed a rewarding career in education that spanned nearly a quarter century and encompassed work as a teacher, counselor, principal, and superintendent; he later entered local politics by becoming a member of the Raymondville City Commission in May 1999; elected mayor in 2006, he played an important role in efforts involving municipal infrastructure, disaster recovery, police and fire facilities, and Raymondville Veterans' Park, among others, over the course of his nine-year tenure; and WHEREAS, This notable Texan further benefited his community through his service as president of the Raymondville Economic Development Corporation and his involvement with the Raymondville Chamber of Commerce, the Willacy County Historical Museum, the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, and the Willacy County Emergency Operations Center; moreover, he was a longtime member of the Raymondville Volunteer Fire Department and the local Lions Club and a valued parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Correa was blessed with the love and support of his wife, the former Cristina Moreno, with whom he shared nearly three decades of marriage; and WHEREAS, Lonnie Correa made a positive difference in his community through his vision, leadership, and selfless commitment to the well-being of others, and his contributions to Raymondville will continue to resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Orlando A. Correa and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Cristina Correa; to his siblings, Adrian Correa and his wife, Sallie, Omar Correa and his wife, Hilda, Dodie de la Fuente and her husband, Oscar, and Liz Shamlian and her husband, Steve; to his sisters-in-law, Blanca Rivera and her husband, Jaime, Judy Gutierrez and her husband, Oscar, and Josie Moreno; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lonnie Correa.
