| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of Myriam Silvana Chavez of Houston on March 4, 2017, at the |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Dora Arellano de Saenz and Guillermo |

| 9 | 10 | | Saenz, Myriam Chavez was born on August 1, 1965, in Quito, Ecuador, |

| 10 | 11 | | where she grew up with the companionship of her brothers, Carlos and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Diego, and attended school at Santo Domingo de Guzman and La |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Inmaculada de Quito; she began working as a computer programmer for |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | the national oil company, Petroecuador, and there, she met her |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | husband and the love of her life, Jaime Chavez; in 1990, the couple |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | moved to Houston, and they subsequently welcomed a daughter, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Catherine, and a son, Sebastian, into their family; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Embarking on a rewarding career in the nonprofit |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | sector, Ms. Chavez worked as an accountant at Foundation for Life |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | before holding positions with the Holy Name Passionist Retreat |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Center and the Fort Bend Independent School District; in 2010, she |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | returned to Foundation for Life to serve as business manager, and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | she tirelessly devoted herself to the organization's mission of |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | supporting pregnant women and unborn children; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Chavez also dedicated herself to the fight |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | against breast cancer, an undertaking that had a profoundly |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | personal meaning for her as she valiantly battled the disease in the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | final years of her life; sustained by her deep and abiding faith, |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and was active |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | in numerous church organizations; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Though her time on this earth was far too brief, |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Myriam Chavez created an inspiring legacy of generosity and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | courage, and those who were fortunate enough to share in her |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | friendship will forever cherish their memories of this kind and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | caring woman; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Myriam Silvana |

| 37 | 38 | | Chavez and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn her passing; |
