 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of Texas has long made a
 positive difference in the lives of countless youth and their
 families; and
 WHEREAS, Part of the nation's largest dropout prevention
 network, CIS of Texas was established in Houston in 1979, and
 through the years it has expanded to include 28 programs throughout
 the state that annually serve more than 93,000 at-risk youth in 942
 schools; and
 WHEREAS, This notable organization works to create
 partnerships with local school districts, businesses, and
 communities in an effort to provide critical services to students
 at risk of dropping out; of the thousands of participants served by
 CIS during the 2015-2016 school year, 92 percent improved classroom
 behavior, 99 percent stayed in school, and 95 percent were promoted
 to the next grade; and
 WHEREAS, Helping young Texans to prepare for successful
 futures, Communities In Schools of Texas is a program of
 immeasurable importance, and it is indeed appropriate to take this
 opportunity to commend the group for the support it provides to
 students in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize February 8, 2017, as Communities In
 Schools Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for CIS of Texas as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
