45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Panhandle Behavioral Health Alliance and its
67 founder, Laura Street of Amarillo, are making vital contributions
78 to the well-being of countless Texans; and
89 WHEREAS, Ms. Street brought together a group of more than 40
910 local leaders to begin a conversation about the mental health of
1011 Panhandle residents; on May 4, 2016, these dedicated men and women
1112 launched the Amarillo Okay to Say campaign, part of a statewide
1213 movement to increase awareness and share a message of hope and
1314 recovery with those suffering from mental illnesses; and
1415 WHEREAS, Following a comprehensive assessment by the Meadows
1516 Mental Health Policy Institute, the Panhandle Behavioral Health
1617 Alliance was officially established on February 15, 2017, with a
1718 goal of creating a network of professionals to improve behavioral
1819 health care for all people in the region; this same day was declared
1920 Panhandle Behavioral Health Alliance Day in Amarillo by Mayor Paul
2021 Harpole, and the organization's leaders reintroduced the Amarillo
2122 Okay to Say campaign; and
2223 WHEREAS, The Panhandle Behavioral Health Alliance currently
2324 operates in 26 Texas counties; it draws on the collective efforts of
2425 numerous organizations, companies, foundations, governmental
2526 agencies, and medical entities, as well as individuals and families
2627 affected by mental, behavioral, or addiction-related challenges;
2728 and
2829 WHEREAS, The members of the Panhandle Behavioral Health
2930 Alliance are working tirelessly to ensure that all of the region's
3031 residents have access to high-quality behavioral health care when
3132 and where they need it, and they are indeed deserving of recognition
3233 at this time; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby honor the Panhandle Behavioral Health Alliance
3536 for its efforts to enhance the region's mental health care system
3637 and commend Laura Street for her commitment to improving the
3738 quality of life for residents of the Texas Panhandle; and, be it
3839 further
3940 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
4041 for the Panhandle Behavioral Health Alliance and Ms. Street as an
4142 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
