| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Silvia Margarita Cuellar Lemus of Houston began an |

| 6 | 7 | | exciting new chapter of her life on September 21, 2016, when she |

| 7 | 8 | | became an American citizen; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Santa Ana, El Salvador, Ms. Cuellar |

| 9 | 10 | | earned her bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Universidad de El Salvador and her teaching certification from the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Universidad Catolica de Occidente; from 1993 to 2002, she worked as |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | a laboratory technician, a laboratory supervisor, and a technical |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | writer and editor; between 2002 and 2010, she taught math, science, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | and English as a second language at Colegio Las Mercedes in Santa |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Ana, and she also worked as a translator and a customer service |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | operator; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Since moving to the United States in 2010, |

| 18 | 19 | | Ms. Cuellar has worked as a translator, a bilingual receptionist |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | and clerk, a customer service representative, and a campaign |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | assistant for State Representative Gene Wu; she is currently |

| 21 | 22 | | employed as a project management assistant for Headworks |
|---|

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A woman of strong Christian faith, Ms. Cuellar |

| 24 | 25 | | attends Lakewood Church, where she sings with the choir and has been |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | active with the Feeding Families Outreach, Helping Hands, Pastoral |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Care, and Financial ministries, as well as with the Servolution |

| 27 | 28 | | team; she has also generously offered her services as an |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | interpreter and translator for Barbara Jordan Endeavors, the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Neighborhood Centers Immigration Forums, and Lakewood Church's |

| 30 | 31 | | Neighborhood Tax Center; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through hard work, skill, and determination, |

| 32 | 33 | | Ms. Cuellar has made a new life for herself and become a valued |

| 33 | 34 | | member of the Houston community, and she may indeed reflect with |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | pride on all that she has accomplished as she swears her oath of |

| 35 | 36 | | allegiance to the United States; now, therefore, be it |

| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Silvia Margarita Cuellar Lemus on |

| 38 | 39 | | becoming a naturalized American citizen and extend to her sincere |
