| 7 | 8 | | reflect on the tremendous legacy of the nation's 40th president; |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The son of Jack and Nelle Reagan, Ronald Wilson |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois, in 1911, and grew up in Dixon; |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | he enjoyed tremendous success in the entertainment industry as a |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | sports announcer, film actor, and television host before embarking |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | on a second career in public service; in 1966, he was elected to the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | first of his two terms as governor of California; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, This deft and resolute leader ascended to the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | presidency in 1980 and began to vigorously address the many |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | challenges that faced a troubled country, among them inflation, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | high unemployment, and the ongoing cold war with the Soviet Union; |

| 19 | 20 | | he worked to promote economic growth and lower taxes while building |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | a stronger national defense, and his bold and effective initiatives |

| 21 | 22 | | gained widespread approval; in 1984, he was returned to office by |

| 34 | 35 | | he passed away on June 5, 2004, his enormous legacy still resonates |
