8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Nacogdoches County to Alonzo Livingston |

9 | 10 | | Mangham Sr. and Gladys Skeeters Mangham on December 17, 1922, A. L. |

10 | 11 | | Mangham enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1939; two years later, he was |
---|
11 | 12 | | stationed at the Boston Navy Yard when he heard the news of the |
---|
12 | 13 | | attack on Pearl Harbor, and he went on to serve in the 4th Marine |
---|
13 | 14 | | Division as a navy corpsman, tending to his wounded comrades; he |
---|
14 | 15 | | took part in two combat landings in the South Pacific, earning a |
---|
15 | 16 | | Silver Star and Purple Heart; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Mangham continued to serve in the military |

17 | 18 | | following the war, and he retired after 24 years; in the 1960s, he |

18 | 19 | | returned to Nacogdoches and began a career in banking that |

19 | 20 | | eventually led to his becoming CEO and president of Fredonia State |

21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, For 13 years in the 1970s and early 1980s, |

22 | 23 | | Mr. Mangham served as mayor of Nacogdoches, and he played a crucial |

23 | 24 | | role in supporting the city's economic development and in |

24 | 25 | | maintaining a business-friendly environment; he provided crucial |

25 | 26 | | assistance in the reopening of the Hotel Fredonia and in the |
---|
26 | 27 | | development of Lake Nacogdoches, and he was a founding board member |
---|
27 | 28 | | of Nacogdoches Medical Center; in recognition of his leadership, |
---|
28 | 29 | | the A. L. Mangham Jr. Regional Airport was named in his honor; and |

29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to his country and his community, A. L. |

30 | 31 | | Mangham lived his life with integrity and with an unwavering |
---|
31 | 32 | | commitment to serving his fellow citizens, and he leaves behind a |

32 | 33 | | legacy of good works that will forever inspire all who had the good |
---|
33 | 34 | | fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it |

34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
