| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mark Huddleston retired as county commissioner for |

| 6 | 7 | | Precinct 1 of Chambers County on December 31, 2016, drawing to a |

| 7 | 8 | | close a notable tenure in that office that spanned nearly a quarter |

| 8 | 9 | | of a century; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A native of Beaumont, Mr. Huddleston graduated from |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Allen Military Academy and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Texas A&M University; following college, he moved to Winnie to work |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | with his father on the family rice farm; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was first elected to the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Chambers County Commissioners Court in 1992, and he ultimately |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | served on the court for six consecutive terms; during his tenure, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | he played an instrumental role in the establishment of Chambers |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | County Emergency Services District No. 1, an achievement in which |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | he takes particular pride; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A longtime community leader, Mr. Huddleston has |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | also served on the boards of the Winnie Rice Farmers Co-Operative |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Association, the Devers Canal System, and the Agricultural |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Stabilization and Conservation Service, as well as on the St. Louis |

| 23 | 24 | | Catholic Church Pastoral Council; he has received the Community |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Builder Award from the Winnie-Stowell Masonic Lodge, and he has |

| 25 | 26 | | been repeatedly honored by the Texas Rice Festival, which has named |

| 26 | 27 | | him Young Farmer of the Year and twice selected him as parade |

| 27 | 28 | | marshal; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his years on the commissioners court, |

| 29 | 30 | | Mark Huddleston demonstrated knowledgeable leadership and a deep |

| 30 | 31 | | concern for the public interest, and he may indeed reflect with |

| 31 | 32 | | great pride on all that he has accomplished in behalf of his fellow |

| 32 | 33 | | citizens; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby honor Mark Huddleston for his committed public |
