| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, La Joya High School is celebrating the 35th |

| 7 | 8 | | Mariachi Los Coyotes programs in 2017; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1982, both Grupo Folklórico Tabasco |

| 9 | 10 | | and Mariachi Los Coyotes are dedicated to promoting and preserving |

| 10 | 11 | | the folklore and culture of Mexico, Spain, and Latin America |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | through music and dance; over the years, the ensembles have |

| 12 | 13 | | performed for such dignitaries as Presidents George H. W. Bush and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Bill Clinton, Governors Mark White and Ann Richards, and numerous |

| 14 | 15 | | members of the U.S. Congress; the recipients of state, national, |

| 15 | 16 | | and international recognition, the groups have been showcased at |

| 16 | 17 | | the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans and have twice been |

| 17 | 18 | | invited to the Nice Carnival in France; today, the folklórico group |

| 18 | 19 | | is ably guided by director Cristóbal Rojas, while the mariachi |

| 19 | 20 | | ensemble benefits from the leadership of director Martin Cantu; and |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In addition to educating students on the vibrant |

| 21 | 22 | | heritage of the Spanish-speaking world, both programs have helped |

| 22 | 23 | | increase student retention rates and academic success at La Joya |

| 23 | 24 | | High; many of the groups' performers have earned individual honors, |

|---|
| 25 | 26 | | universities that offer cultural scholarships; some have gone on to |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Over the last three and a half decades, Grupo |
