R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The observance of Run, Ride & Share Day on February
7, 2017, provides a fitting opportunity for citizens across the
state to acknowledge the importance of safety on our roadways; and
WHEREAS, Run, Ride & Share began in April 2014 in McAllen as
an awareness campaign to encourage runners, cyclists, and motorists
to safely share the city's streets and highways; in the years since
its inception, the program has expanded to reach surrounding Texas
communities with this important message; and
WHEREAS, Through education in local schools, the placement of
emergency call boxes on hike-and-bike trails, and the distribution
of informational material, Run, Ride & Share has provided citizens
with a range of lifesaving tools; the campaign also hosts the
international Ride of Silence event each year to reaffirm cyclists'
rights to public roadways and to honor cyclists who have been killed
or injured; and
WHEREAS, The notable achievements and ongoing efforts of this
outstanding campaign have made the roadways of the Lone Star State
safer places for all Texans, and it is a pleasure to join in
supporting this worthy cause; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize February 7, 2017, as Run, Ride & Share
Day.
