45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Texas Juvenile Justice Professional Day is taking
67 place on January 24, 2017, and this occasion offers an ideal
78 opportunity to recognize the outstanding contributions of the
89 dedicated individuals working in this field; and
910 WHEREAS, The Texas juvenile justice system is recognized as
1011 being one of the most progressive in the country and is composed of
1112 166 community-based probation departments that serve the state's
1213 254 counties in partnership with the Texas Juvenile Justice
1314 Department; and
1415 WHEREAS, More than 8,200 certified juvenile probation and
1516 supervision officers work tirelessly and courageously to help
1617 rehabilitate young people, handling 100 percent of the referrals
1718 received into the juvenile justice system each year and providing
1819 ongoing services at the local level to 95 percent of those
1920 referrals; and
2021 WHEREAS, Through their commitment and expertise, juvenile
2122 justice professionals make a positive difference in the lives of
2223 at-risk youth and help maintain the security of the citizens of
2324 Texas, and their contributions are indeed deserving of recognition;
2425 now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby recognize January 24, 2017, as Texas Juvenile
2728 Justice Professional Day and commend youth probation personnel for
2829 the essential services they provide.
