H.R. No. 345
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Carson Brown and Stella Oliver, from Panhandle High
School, have been selected as members of the Association of Texas
Small School Bands 2017 All-State Band; and
WHEREAS, More than 9,000 students from across the state
auditioned for a chair in one of the three ATSSB All-State
ensembles, and only 295 students made the final cut; those selected
have been invited to attend the annual Texas Music Educators
Association convention in San Antonio, where they will participate
in three days of intense rehearsals and perform a concert under the
direction of a nationally recognized conductor; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Brown, a senior trombonist, and Ms. Oliver, a
junior percussionist, demonstrated exceptional talent and
technical facility throughout the audition process, which involved
tryouts at the regional and then the area level; they have been
guided in their musical education by Panhandle High School band
director Kyle McDonald and associate director Jacob Summersgill;
and
WHEREAS, The hard work and ability of these gifted young
Texans have placed them among the state's elite high school
musicians, and they may indeed take great pride in their
outstanding achievement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Carson Brown and Stella Oliver on
their selection as members of the ATSSB 2017 All-State Band and
extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Brown and Ms. Oliver as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
