H.R. No. 349
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The members of the Good Samaritan Missionary Baptist
Church in Houston are celebrating the 55th anniversary of their
church's founding on February 26, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Established in February 1962 by Louis Blount Jr. and
five charter members, Good Samaritan MBC held its first services on
March 11 at its sanctuary on Cavalcade Street; the congregation was
led by Pastor Louis Blount Jr. for nearly half a century before its
current pastor, Bishop Lester E. Blount Sr., assumed the pulpit in
2010; and
WHEREAS, United by their shared faith and strong traditions,
the members of this notable house of worship have established a
variety of commendable programs that foster fellowship and offer
help to those in need, including hospital and nursing home
ministries and the annual "Share the Warmth" blanket drive; and
WHEREAS, Countless Houston residents have looked to Good
Samaritan MBC for spiritual guidance over the years, and it is a
pleasure to join in honoring the church at this special time in its
rich history; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 55th anniversary of the Good
Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church and extend to its members
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
