H.R. No. 352
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Reaching the pinnacle of success in his sport,
Cooper Davis was named the 2016 Professional Bull Riders World
Champion on November 6; and
WHEREAS, A Jasper native, Mr. Davis began his PBR career in
2015, and he notched a dramatic victory that year when he became
just the fourth rookie competitor in history to win first place at
the organization's World Finals event; and
WHEREAS, The talented young Texan had a slow start in 2016
because of an injury that kept him from performing at some of the
year's early events, and he also suffered a broken collarbone
partway through the season; refusing to give up on his championship
dream, he was back in action just 17 days after undergoing surgery
and made a strong showing in the latter part of the year; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Davis entered the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas
as a top contender for the World Champion title; on the final day of
the weeklong contest, he earned an outstanding 91-point score in
the fifth round of the competition, clinching third place at the
event and propelling him to first place in the overall rankings for
the season; and
WHEREAS, Through skill, hard work, and perseverance, Cooper
Davis has distinguished himself as the top bull rider in the world,
and he may indeed reflect with pride on this remarkable
accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Cooper Davis on winning the 2016
PBR World Champion title and extend to him sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Davis as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
