H.R. No. 359 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Both the boys' and girls' track teams of DeSoto High School reached the pinnacle of success by winning the Class 6A state championships at the University Interscholastic League Track & Field State Meet on May 14, 2016; and WHEREAS, Joining the top high school competitors in the state at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, the DeSoto boys' squad was led in the individual events by C. J. Gilmore, who placed first in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 9 inches; in the team events, the quartet of Savion Drake, Trevin Chambers, LaDarren Brown, and London Dunn captured gold medals in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 40.34 seconds, while Terrion Spivey, Evan Chambers, Darrin Jackson, and Cameron Neely placed second in the 4x400-meter relay, crossing the finish line in 3 minutes, 14.22 seconds; and WHEREAS, The Lady Eagles were paced by Alexis Duncan, who clinched a pair of gold medals in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles with times of 13.22 seconds and 41.88 seconds, respectively; Kira White added to the medal count in the individual events by finishing first in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 11.63 seconds; Ms. Duncan and Ms. White also joined forces with teammates Shavonne Jackson and Zaria Whittaker to place first in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.13 seconds, and the foursome of Ms. Whittaker, Rosaline Effiong, Taylor Armstrong, and Chloe Cavazos won gold in the 4x200-meter relay by recording a time of 1 minute, 36.29 seconds; and WHEREAS, The talented student-athletes of the DeSoto High boys' and girls' track teams have excelled through skill, hard work, and an enduring commitment to excellence, and they are a source of tremendous pride to their classmates and their many supporters in the local community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the DeSoto High School boys' and girls' track teams on winning the Class 6A state titles at the 2016 UIL Track & Field State Meet and extend to the athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for the teams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
