| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, National Donor Day is taking place on February 14, |

| 6 | 7 | | 2017, and this occasion offers an opportunity to recognize a group |

| 7 | 8 | | of Central Texas residents whose recent experiences reflect the |

| 8 | 9 | | profound and positive impact that organ donation can have on those |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | who are involved in this life-giving process; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Emily Chenevert, who works for the Austin Board of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Realtors, and her husband, Hunter Chenevert, who is employed as a |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | nurse, became the parents of a son, Barrett, who suffered from a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | congenital medical condition; he experienced total renal failure |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | shortly after birth and underwent surgery so that he could begin |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | dialysis treatments; at 13 months of age, he was approved for a |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | kidney transplant but was placed on a waiting list, as neither his |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | mother nor father was an eligible donor; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Lydia Clay of Austin learned about Barrett's |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | situation after meeting Ms. Chenevert while both women were taking |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | part in the 2016 Leadership Austin program; having lost her father |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | in 2008 while he was on a waiting list for a liver transplant, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Ms. Clay was inspired to help the Cheneverts and volunteered to |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | undergo testing to see if she was a compatible donor for Barrett; |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | after the tests showed that she was an appropriate match, the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | surgery was scheduled, and the successful kidney transplant took |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | place on November 17, 2016, in San Antonio; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Now two years old, Barrett is enjoying a healthier |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | and happier childhood under the loving care of his parents; he is |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | currently attending speech therapy and is fond of playing outside |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | and watching his favorite show, Sesame Street; Ms. Clay is |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | continuing her career as a project manager with the Momark housing |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | firm and is also serving as an advocate for organ donation, an |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | undertaking that she considers a fitting tribute to her father; and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Lydia Clay and the Chenevert family joined together |

| 35 | 36 | | to respond to an urgent medical dilemma, and their story stands as |

| 36 | 37 | | an outstanding example of the good that can be accomplished through |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | organ donation; now, therefore, be it |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
