| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The untimely death of Charles Winfred Roberts of |

| 6 | 7 | | Katy on January 13, 2017, at the age of 59, has brought a great loss |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | to the family and many friends of this beloved gentleman; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This compassionate Texan cared dearly for the |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | animals that he was committed to rescuing, and his pets, which |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | included six dogs and a horse, were like family to him; he devoted |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | his life in retirement to volunteering with Rescued Pets Movement |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | in the Heights, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | second chances to dogs and cats in need of homes; for over a year, he |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | and his son Jared made the long trip to deliver dogs and cats |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | scheduled for euthanasia from Houston to Colorado, where they might |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | be adopted; Mr. Roberts was killed in an automobile accident while |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | en route on one of these trips; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on May 29, 1957, Charles Roberts was |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | the son of Charles and Helen Phillipo Roberts; a resident of the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Katy area since 1993, he shared a fulfilling relationship with his |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | cherished wife, Theresa Ann, and was the devoted father of four |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | children, Shalia, Rhiannon, Brandon, and Jared; through the years, |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | he took joy in welcoming into his family two grandchildren, Alexa |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | and Maximus, and he was also a doting uncle and great-uncle; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Roberts radiated warmth and generosity, winning |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | the affection of everyone that he encountered, and he was fond of |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | sharing his knowledge of politics, the military, and Texas and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | world history; moreover, he enjoyed watching Dallas Cowboys games |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | with his daughter Rhiannon, along with traveling, playing the |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | guitar, fishing, snorkeling, stargazing, and a host of other |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | eclectic hobbies; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Charles Roberts was a source of strength and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and although |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | his loss is difficult to bear, his loved ones may find comfort in |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | remembering the wonderful times that they shared with him and the |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | integrity and kindness with which he lived; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charles Winfred |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | Roberts and extend sincere condolences to all those who mourn his |

| 40 | 41 | | passing; and, be it further |

| 41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
