8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Situated on the crest between the Trinity and Brazos |

9 | 10 | | Valleys, this frontier settlement was named for Jefferson |

10 | 11 | | Weatherford, a Texas senator who coauthored the bill to establish |

11 | 12 | | Parker County; Weatherford was incorporated in 1858, and as the |

12 | 13 | | county seat, it experienced significant growth in the last two |
---|
13 | 14 | | decades of the 19th century, spurred by the construction of three |
---|
14 | 15 | | railroads, which made it a prime retail and shipping point for area |
---|
15 | 16 | | ranchers and farmers; and |

16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Today a city of approximately 30,000, Weatherford |

17 | 18 | | enjoys its proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex while |

23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Weatherford offers numerous attractions for |

24 | 25 | | residents and visitors alike, including Clark Gardens Botanical |

25 | 26 | | Park, the Doss Heritage & Culture Center, and the Museum of the |

26 | 27 | | Americas, and outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the Town Creek Hike and |

27 | 28 | | Bike Trail and water sports on Lake Weatherford; moreover, the |

28 | 29 | | downtown historic district is host to numerous unique stores, and |

29 | 30 | | it is the site of the old-time Farmers Market, as well as First |

45 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

46 | 47 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 27, 2017, as Weatherford Day |
