No. 393 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Larry Davis, athletic director for the DeSoto Independent School District, is visiting the State Capitol on February 15, 2017, and this occasion provides a welcome opportunity to recognize his 26-year tenure with the district; and WHEREAS, After earning a bachelor's degree from Central State University, Larry Davis went on to receive a master of education degree from Texas A&M University--Commerce; he began his career with DeSoto ISD in August 1991 as a teacher at DeSoto High School and as a member of the football, basketball, and baseball coaching staffs; over the next 22 years, he served the district as assistant principal at West Junior High, principal at Meadows Intermediate School, director of administrative services, and executive director of human resources; and WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was named athletic director in 2013, and under his outstanding leadership, the Eagles have achieved tremendous athletic success; they made history in 2016, when the DeSoto High School boys' basketball, football, and boys' and girls' track teams each claimed University Interscholastic League state championship titles; and WHEREAS, In addition to managing his myriad professional responsibilities, Mr. Davis has shared his time and talents with the community as a representative of Southwest Dallas County for Leadership Southwest and as a board member for the DeSoto Parks and Recreation strategic planning committee, the DeSoto Youth Baseball Association, and the DeSoto Youth Basketball Association; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Davis enjoys the love and support of his wife, Traci, and their two children; and WHEREAS, For more than two decades, the students, faculty, staff, and administration of the DeSoto Independent School District have benefited greatly from Larry Davis's hard work and dedication, and he may indeed take pride in his many achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby recognize Larry Davis for his service to the DeSoto Independent School District and extend to him best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Davis as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
