9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from San Angelo Central High |

10 | 11 | | School, Mr. Poss earned a bachelor's degree in business |

11 | 12 | | administration from Hardin-Simmons University, where he was a |

12 | 13 | | member of the basketball and track and field teams, and he |
---|
13 | 14 | | subsequently received a master's degree in education from Sul Ross |
---|
14 | 15 | | State University; he began his coaching career at Big Spring High |
---|
15 | 16 | | School before joining the faculty of Midland College as director of |
---|
16 | 17 | | athletics and men's golf coach in 1977; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, At the helm of the golf program, Coach Poss has |
---|
18 | 19 | | compiled an impressive list of accomplishments, guiding Chaparral |
---|
19 | 20 | | athletes to 29 consecutive appearances in the NJCAA National Men's |
---|
20 | 21 | | Golf Tournament and winning 4 championships, as well as more than |
---|
21 | 22 | | 250 tournament titles overall; moreover, he has coached 49 |
---|
22 | 23 | | All-Americans, and many of his athletes have gone on to enjoy |
---|
23 | 24 | | professional golf careers and to compete in major PGA tournaments; |

24 | 25 | | he also garnered international acclaim by coaching Team USA to a |
---|
25 | 26 | | gold medal at the 1996 World University Games in Switzerland; and |

26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Coach Poss has further benefited Texas athletics as |

27 | 28 | | a football and basketball referee for several college athletic |
---|
28 | 29 | | conferences, as president of the Southwest Basketball Officials |
---|
29 | 30 | | Association, and as a member of the University Interscholastic |
---|
30 | 31 | | League Sports Committee; in recognition of his many achievements, |

31 | 32 | | he has been inducted into the Midland College Athletic Hall of Fame, |
---|
32 | 33 | | the NJCAA Hall of Fame, the Hardin-Simmons University Athletic Hall |

33 | 34 | | of Fame, the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame, and |

34 | 35 | | the San Angelo Central High School Hall of Fame, and he was |

35 | 36 | | presented with an NJCAA Athletic Directors Achievement Award in |

37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, this esteemed Texan is blessed |

38 | 39 | | with the love and support of his wife of 62 years, Martha, and he |

39 | 40 | | takes tremendous pride in his children, Nathan, Dell, and Mark, his |

40 | 41 | | daughters-in-law, Peggy Ann and Marla, and his grandchildren, Emil |

42 | 43 | | WHEREAS, With his exceptional ability to teach and motivate, |

43 | 44 | | Delnor Poss has created a notable legacy at Midland College, and he |

44 | 45 | | may indeed reflect with satisfaction on his long and successful |

45 | 46 | | career as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, |
