| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Situated on the gently rolling Blackland Prairie of |

| 9 | 10 | | North Texas, the region was inhabited by members of the Caddo and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Cherokee tribes before the first European resident, John O. Heath, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | settled on the East Fork of the Trinity River in 1846; Rockwall |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | County was established in 1873, taking its name from an underground |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | rock formation; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The smallest county in Texas, yet among the fastest |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | growing, Rockwall County today boasts a population of approximately |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | 90,000 people who are committed to economic development while |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | maintaining their bustling downtowns and small-community |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | atmosphere; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The county seat, Rockwall, was named by early |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | explorer T. U. Wade, who discovered a large rock wall when digging |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | a well in the mid-1800s; dedicated to preserving their community's |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | rich heritage and family-friendly environment, residents and civic |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | leaders are working hard to keep a small-town feel to a vibrant city |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | even as its population continues to grow; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The city of Heath boasts a premier residential |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | community located along the picturesque shores of Lake Ray Hubbard, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | and its residents enjoy high property values, low tax rates, and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | exemplary schools; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Looking to the future with a strong chamber of |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | commerce that supports local businesses, Royse City, too, is making |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | it a priority to preserve its roots; with a lively downtown and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | superior schools, it has truly become an ideal spot to call home; |

|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, In an area known for its rich blackland soil, the |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | town of McLendon-Chisholm dates back to the mid-1800s and is |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | partially named for P. A. McLendon, an area landowner, who |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | encouraged growth when he built a store and a blacksmith shop before |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | the community merged with another to become the inviting town it is |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | today; and |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Mobile City is the county's newest incorporated town |
|---|
| 41 | 42 | | and its smallest, with nearly 200 residents; additionally, its land |
|---|
| 42 | 43 | | area of just 0.02 square miles distinguishes it as having the |
|---|
| 43 | 44 | | highest population density of any municipality in Texas; and |
|---|
| 44 | 45 | | WHEREAS, Rockwall County is an exceptional place to live, |
|---|
| 45 | 46 | | work, and raise a family, and its citizens may take justifiable |
|---|
| 46 | 47 | | pride in their community's unique contributions to the story of the |
|---|
| 47 | 48 | | Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
