 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
 cause for celebration, and Irene Hirt of Midland marked this
 momentous milestone in her life on January 4, 2017, in the company
 of family and friends; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Cameron in 1917, to parents of German
 descent, she grew up on a cotton farm with her twin sister and six
 other siblings; she married the love of her life, Edward Hirt, in
 San Angelo on September 27, 1938, and the couple moved to Midland in
 1961; and
 WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Hirt is the treasured matriarch of a
 fine family that has grown to include 3 daughters, Glenda, Joanne,
 and Irene, and 2 sons-in-law, Hugh and George, as well as 9
 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 11
 great-great-grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hirt enjoys playing dominoes, listening to
 classic country music, and sharing stories, including her
 recollections of singer Ernest Tubb in the days before he became
 famous; when asked the secret to longevity, the chocolate-chip
 aficionado reveals that "A nap and cookie a day keep the doctor
 away"; and
 WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family and admiring friends,
 Irene Hirt has long been a source of joy to all who are fortunate
 enough to know her, and it is a pleasure to honor her for having
 joined an elite group of Texans who can look back on 100 years of
 life well lived; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Irene Hirt on her 100th birthday
 and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mrs. Hirt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
