No. 439 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Craig Yenzer is retiring as head football coach and athletic coordinator at Midland High School in June 2017, drawing to a close a notable career in school athletics that has spanned nearly four decades; and WHEREAS, After graduating from Oklahoma State University in 1979, Craig Yenzer gained experience as a teacher and coach at schools in Guthrie, Newkirk, and Tuttle, Oklahoma; his involvement in Texas high school football began when he was hired at Hereford High School; he served as an assistant coach for a decade before being promoted to head coach and athletic director, and his tenure was highlighted by his team's appearance in the 4A Division 1 state title game in 1999; and WHEREAS, Mr. Yenzer took over as the Midland High head coach in 2002, and during his inaugural season, he piloted the Bulldogs not only to their first postseason berth in more than half a century but also to an appearance in the state finals; the longest-serving and winningest head football coach in school history, he has compiled an impressive overall record of 103 wins and 70 losses and taken his team to the playoffs in 10 of his 15 seasons with Midland; in addition, 72 of his student-athletes have gone on to play football at the collegiate level; and WHEREAS, Through his vision and leadership, Craig Yenzer has helped build a proud tradition of gridiron excellence at Midland High School, and he may reflect with pride on his many achievements as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Craig Yenzer on his retirement as head football coach and athletic coordinator at Midland High School and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Coach Yenzer as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
