45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Craig Yenzer is retiring as head football coach and
67 athletic coordinator at Midland High School in June 2017, drawing
78 to a close a notable career in school athletics that has spanned
89 nearly four decades; and
910 WHEREAS, After graduating from Oklahoma State University in
1011 1979, Craig Yenzer gained experience as a teacher and coach at
1112 schools in Guthrie, Newkirk, and Tuttle, Oklahoma; his involvement
1213 in Texas high school football began when he was hired at Hereford
1314 High School; he served as an assistant coach for a decade before
1415 being promoted to head coach and athletic director, and his tenure
1516 was highlighted by his team's appearance in the 4A Division 1 state
1617 title game in 1999; and
1718 WHEREAS, Mr. Yenzer took over as the Midland High head coach
1819 in 2002, and during his inaugural season, he piloted the Bulldogs
1920 not only to their first postseason berth in more than half a century
2021 but also to an appearance in the state finals; the longest-serving
2122 and winningest head football coach in school history, he has
2223 compiled an impressive overall record of 103 wins and 70 losses and
2324 taken his team to the playoffs in 10 of his 15 seasons with Midland;
2425 in addition, 72 of his student-athletes have gone on to play
2526 football at the collegiate level; and
2627 WHEREAS, Through his vision and leadership, Craig Yenzer has
2728 helped build a proud tradition of gridiron excellence at Midland
2829 High School, and he may reflect with pride on his many achievements
2930 as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now,
3031 therefore, be it
3132 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3233 Legislature hereby congratulate Craig Yenzer on his retirement as
3334 head football coach and athletic coordinator at Midland High School
3435 and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and,
3536 be it further
3637 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3738 prepared for Coach Yenzer as an expression of high regard by the
3839 Texas House of Representatives.
