| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Many proud Texans are gathering in Austin on |

| 6 | 7 | | February 21, 2017, to celebrate Texas A&M University--Corpus |

| 7 | 8 | | Christi Day at the State Capitol; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The school traces its beginnings to 1947, when the |

| 9 | 10 | | University of Corpus Christi was established; the institution |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | became a part of The Texas A&M University System in 1989; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Today, the university serves more than 12,000 |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | students; it offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | the Colleges of Business, Education and Human Development, Liberal |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Arts, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Science and Engineering; and |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Home to world-class centers and institutes |

| 16 | 17 | | conducting autonomous research focused on the Gulf of Mexico, the |

| 17 | 18 | | university continues to bring new programs and initiatives to the |

| 18 | 19 | | campus, including a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, a |

| 19 | 20 | | Ph.D. in geospatial computing science, and a doctorate in nursing |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi is one of the |

| 22 | 23 | | foremost institutions of higher education in the state, and it is |

| 23 | 24 | | truly fitting that a day be set aside to recognize its many |

| 24 | 25 | | contributions to the growth and prosperity of the Lone Star State; |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 21, 2017, as Texas A&M |

| 29 | 30 | | university's administration, faculty, and staff on their |

| 30 | 31 | | commitment to fostering excellence in education; and, be it further |
