| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Representatives of Baylor University are gathering |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Baylor University was established February 1, 1845, |

| 8 | 9 | | by an act of the Congress of the Republic of Texas; it is the oldest |

| 9 | 10 | | continuously operating university in the state; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, This private Christian university and nationally |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | ranked research institution provides a vibrant campus community for |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | approximately 17,000 students; it offers 142 undergraduate |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | degrees, 75 graduate degrees, 42 doctoral degrees, and a juris |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | doctor in addition to a wide array of preprofessional tracks and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | specialized academic opportunities; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Baylor University's men's basketball team has become |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | the number one team in the nation for the first time in the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | program's history, and its football team recently won the 2016 |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Cactus Bowl; moreover, the women's basketball team has continued to |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | prove its dominance, and it is currently ranked number two in the |
|---|

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, With a median grade point average of 3.27 across the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | entire athletic department during the fall 2016 semester, Baylor |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | athletics extends its run to 17 consecutive semesters with a |

| 25 | 26 | | cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; additionally, 137 students were |

| 26 | 27 | | named to the Dean's List and 307 students were recognized on the Big |

| 27 | 28 | | 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the semester; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The school's outstanding academic and athletic |

| 29 | 30 | | programs, combined with a faculty dedicated to teaching and |

| 30 | 31 | | scholarship, have served to create an institution with an |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | international reputation for educational excellence, and it is |
|---|
