| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A. C. Gonzalez is retiring as city manager of Dallas |

| 6 | 7 | | in January 2017, drawing to a close an outstanding career in public |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | service; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, After earning his bachelor's degree from The |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Gonzalez went on to receive a |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | master's degree in urban studies from Trinity University; in 1974, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | at age 23, he became one of the youngest city managers in the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | country when he began his career in Dilley; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, He led city governments in Carrizo Springs and San |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Marcos until he embarked on his notable tenure with the City of |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Dallas in 1988 as assistant city manager; he further honed his |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | administrative skills as deputy superintendent and superintendent |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | of the Austin Independent School District and as president of a |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | privately owned investment company before returning to Dallas in |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | 2006; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, On January 21, 2014, after seven months as interim |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | city manager, Mr. Gonzalez was officially appointed to the office |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | of Dallas city manager; over the course of his 17 years in Dallas |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | city government, this esteemed Texan has overseen a number of major |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | projects, including development of the Omni Dallas Convention |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Center Hotel, management of the Love Field modernization program, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | and negotiations of the Dallas Stars Reunion Arena lease, which |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | brought the professional sports franchise to the city; he also |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | advocated for a federal grant that expanded streetcars in the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | downtown area and was responsible for expanding the city's tax base |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | through numerous development projects; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, With his skill, dedication, and vision, |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | A. C. Gonzalez has made Dallas an even better place in which to |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | live, and his achievements will continue to benefit his fellow |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | residents in the years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby honor A. C. Gonzalez on his retirement as city |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | manager of Dallas and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | continued success and happiness; and, be it further |

| 39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 40 | 41 | | prepared for Mr. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the |
