| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Curtis Poovey began his new appointment as the chief |

| 6 | 7 | | of the Richardson Fire Department on January 1, 2017, and this is a |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | fitting opportunity to celebrate his exemplary 23-year tenure with |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | the department; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Poovey joined the Richardson Fire Department as |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | a firefighter in May 1993, and he quickly rose through the ranks, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | earning promotion to lieutenant in 1999, captain in 2001, and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | battalion chief in 2009; since January 2016, he has served as the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | department's assistant chief of operations; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, This veteran first responder has been certified as a |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | fire executive by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association, and he is a |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | graduate of the Fire Service Chief Executive Officer Program at |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Texas A&M University; he also holds certifications as a hazardous |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | materials incident commander, paramedic, level 3 instructor, and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | fire officer IV; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A leader in his field, Chief Poovey has served as |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | president of the Dallas County Fire Chiefs Association and as a |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | member of the Paramedic Advisory Board for Richland College and The |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center; in addition, he is |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | a Medical Incident Support Team member and a task force leader for |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | the Texas Emergency Medical Task Force; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Chief Poovey's dedication to the highest standards |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | of his profession has greatly benefited the residents of Richardson |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | and earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and he may |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | indeed reflect with pride on his many achievements as he takes on |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | the challenges and opportunities of his new position; now, |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
