5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Since 1991, the Caring for Children Foundation of |

6 | 7 | | Texas has worked to provide free and low-cost access to primary and |

7 | 8 | | preventive health care to the uninsured and medically underserved |
---|
8 | 9 | | children of Texas; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, From 1991 through 1997, the Caring for Children |
---|
10 | 11 | | Program addressed the needs of more than 8,000 uninsured Texas |
---|
11 | 12 | | children for well and sick care physician visits, outpatient |
---|
12 | 13 | | surgeries, lab tests, and prescription medicines; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The foundation went on to launch the Care Van |
---|
14 | 15 | | Program in 1997 to help expand access to immunizations; |
---|
15 | 16 | | collaborating with local health departments, immunization |
---|
16 | 17 | | coalitions, and volunteers, the Care Van fleet visits schools, |
---|
17 | 18 | | churches, restaurants, shopping malls, and community events, and to |
---|
18 | 19 | | date, the program has provided over 1.3 million immunizations to |
---|
19 | 20 | | more than 850,000 children in need; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In 2008, the Care Van Program established an oral |
---|
21 | 22 | | health initiative in partnership with the Texas Department of State |
---|
22 | 23 | | Health Services and local health departments and organizations; to |
---|
23 | 24 | | date, over 275,000 economically underprivileged children have been |
---|
24 | 25 | | able to receive basic dental exams and dental sealants; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, These vital efforts are made possible through the |
---|
26 | 27 | | support of the foundation's primary statewide sponsor, Blue Cross |
---|
27 | 28 | | Blue Shield of Texas, which covers 100 percent of the foundation's |
---|
28 | 29 | | administrative expenses; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, For a quarter of a century, the Caring for Children |
---|
30 | 31 | | Foundation of Texas has helped to connect our state's most |
---|
31 | 32 | | vulnerable young residents with essential health services, and in |
---|
32 | 33 | | so doing, it has helped to shape a brighter future for all Texans; |
---|
33 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |

34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
---|
35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Caring for Children Foundation |

36 | 37 | | of Texas on its 25th anniversary and extend to all those associated |

37 | 38 | | with the foundation sincere best wishes for continued success with |
