H.R. No. 496 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The fourth grade class of the Girls' School of Austin is visiting the State Capitol on March 27, 2017; and WHEREAS, Founded in 2002, the school provides an academically challenging education for girls in kindergarten through eighth grade; its mission is to help students become confident young women who lead fulfilling, intellectually vibrant lives, and to that end, the campus community fosters creative learning and a personal commitment to excellence; and WHEREAS, Fourth graders at GSA gain an understanding of the mechanics of all three branches of Texas government, with an emphasis on the legislature; to highlight the importance of participation in civic life, the students write letters to their legislators about the issues that most concern them; they also study the historical and contemporary role of women in state government; and WHEREAS, Guided by their teacher, Rachel Lee, the current fourth grade class includes Adanna Amalaha, Ella Kate Brotman, Ivy Christie, Lila Cisneros-Wise, Willa Crocker, Elyse Daniels, Adriana Davies, Isabella DiCarlo, Harper Freach, Emery Ledoux, Mackenzie Lopez, Josie Mullan, Grace Philips, Sylvie Powell, Sonia Randle, Brooklyn Rice, Ainsley Rudd, and Grace Schlegel; and WHEREAS, The participation of citizens is vital to a robust and flourishing democracy, and through their careful study of state government, these outstanding young Texans are preparing to become thoughtful leaders and engaged, productive members of society; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby welcome the fourth grade class from the Girls' School of Austin and extend to the students and their teacher sincere best wishes for a memorable and enjoyable visit; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the class as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
