R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Rotary District 5870 of Central Texas is celebrating
the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation on February 4, 2017;
and
WHEREAS, The Rotary Foundation was established in 1917 by
Rotary International president Arch Klumph, who gave the
organization its first donation, a sum of $26.50; as the charitable
arm of Rotary, the foundation supports high-impact, sustainable
projects with measurable goals in six areas of focus: peace and
conflict prevention/resolution, basic education and literacy,
economic and community development, water and sanitation, maternal
and child health, and disease prevention and treatment; a primary
goal of the organization is to assist the Rotarians in fulfilling
their promise to completely eradicate polio worldwide; and
WHEREAS, Respected around the globe for its worthy endeavors
and effective use of donations, the Rotary Foundation improved
lives in more than 190 countries in 2016; in recognition of its
contributions to the well-being of countless individuals, the
organization was named the World's Outstanding Foundation for 2016
by the Association of Fundraising Professionals; and
WHEREAS, The Rotary Foundation has made possible programs of
lasting benefit to individuals in the Lone Star State and beyond,
and its achievements are a testament to the dedication and
generosity of Rotary International members worldwide; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Rotary District 5870 on the occasion of
the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation and extend to all
those affiliated with the district sincere best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Rotary District 5870 as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
