| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Rotary District 5870 of Central Texas is celebrating |

| 6 | 7 | | the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation on February 4, 2017; |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Rotary Foundation was established in 1917 by |

| 9 | 10 | | Rotary International president Arch Klumph, who gave the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | organization its first donation, a sum of $26.50; as the charitable |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | arm of Rotary, the foundation supports high-impact, sustainable |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | projects with measurable goals in six areas of focus: peace and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | conflict prevention/resolution, basic education and literacy, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | economic and community development, water and sanitation, maternal |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | and child health, and disease prevention and treatment; a primary |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | goal of the organization is to assist the Rotarians in fulfilling |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | their promise to completely eradicate polio worldwide; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Respected around the globe for its worthy endeavors |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | and effective use of donations, the Rotary Foundation improved |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | lives in more than 190 countries in 2016; in recognition of its |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | contributions to the well-being of countless individuals, the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | organization was named the World's Outstanding Foundation for 2016 |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | by the Association of Fundraising Professionals; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The Rotary Foundation has made possible programs of |

| 25 | 26 | | lasting benefit to individuals in the Lone Star State and beyond, |

| 26 | 27 | | and its achievements are a testament to the dedication and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | generosity of Rotary International members worldwide; now, |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby honor Rotary District 5870 on the occasion of |

| 31 | 32 | | the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation and extend to all |

| 32 | 33 | | those affiliated with the district sincere best wishes for the |
