45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Over the course of his life, Bishop George
67 C. Sampleton of Inspiration Pentecostal Church of the Apostolic
78 Faith in Bastrop has dedicated himself to serving both his faith and
89 the cause of justice, and he is truly deserving of special
910 recognition during Black History Month; and
1011 WHEREAS, When he was a young man in 1965, during the height of
1112 the civil rights movement, Bishop Sampleton was one of the first
1213 African American students to integrate Gonzales High School; a
1314 ninth grader at the time, he endured harassment, verbal abuse, and
1415 the threat of violence with grace and fortitude; and
1516 WHEREAS, For the past two decades, Bishop Sampleton has
1617 committed himself to a life of faith as pastor of Inspiration
1718 Pentecostal Church, tending to the needy, the hungry, the sick, and
1819 the housebound; he has founded a phone ministry and a jail ministry,
1920 and he has been a source of spiritual solace to many of his
2021 parishioners; and
2122 WHEREAS, Elevated to bishop in 2016, this caring man of God
2223 has worked tirelessly to build a more just, compassionate, and
2324 inclusive society, and he is truly deserving of the high esteem in
2425 which he is held by all who know him; now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby honor Bishop George C. Sampleton for his service
2728 to his church and his community on the occasion of Black History
2829 Month and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success
2930 and happiness; and, be it further
3031 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3132 prepared for Bishop Sampleton as an expression of high regard by the
3233 Texas House of Representatives.
