| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, When he was a young man in 1965, during the height of |

| 11 | 12 | | the civil rights movement, Bishop Sampleton was one of the first |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | African American students to integrate Gonzales High School; a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | ninth grader at the time, he endured harassment, verbal abuse, and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the threat of violence with grace and fortitude; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, For the past two decades, Bishop Sampleton has |

| 16 | 17 | | committed himself to a life of faith as pastor of Inspiration |

| 17 | 18 | | Pentecostal Church, tending to the needy, the hungry, the sick, and |

| 18 | 19 | | the housebound; he has founded a phone ministry and a jail ministry, |

| 19 | 20 | | and he has been a source of spiritual solace to many of his |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | parishioners; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Elevated to bishop in 2016, this caring man of God |

| 22 | 23 | | has worked tirelessly to build a more just, compassionate, and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | inclusive society, and he is truly deserving of the high esteem in |

| 24 | 25 | | which he is held by all who know him; now, therefore, be it |

| 25 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 26 | 27 | | Legislature hereby honor Bishop George C. Sampleton for his service |
