H.R. No. 519 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the passing of Eva Henley of San Angelo on September 24, 2016, at the age of 98; and WHEREAS, A native of Tullahoma, Tennessee, the former Eva Hickerson was born on July 16, 1918, to the Reverend Julius Hickerson and Anna Mae Coon Hickerson; she grew up in Commerce and earned a bachelor's degree in 1937 from East Texas State University before teaching home economics at Van High School; she later earned a master's degree in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and taught English composition at Louisiana Tech University while earning a master's degree in English from that institution; and WHEREAS, In 1938, she married the Reverend Dr. Truman Aldredge, and the couple shared nearly three decades until his passing in 1966; she was fortunate enough to find love again and exchanged wedding vows with the Reverend Dr. Taylor Henley in 1968; she took great pride in her 2 daughters, Anne and Jann, as well as in her 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Henley moved with Dr. Henley to San Angelo, where she taught English at Central High School for 25 years and coached a number of award-winning UIL competitors; active in her professional community as well as in civic affairs, she served as president of the Texas Joint Council of Teachers of English and as a board member for the United Way of San Angelo, and she frequently contributed witty and inspirational op-eds to the San Angelo Standard-Times; and WHEREAS, A woman of tremendous faith, Mrs. Henley held many roles with First Baptist Church, serving on several committees, teaching Sunday school, and acting in Christmas dramas; she and her husband founded Missions Our Mission, through which they led dozens of ministry trips to Ukraine and other countries; after Reverend Henley's death in 2000, Mrs. Henley continued to lead and raise money for mission trips; and WHEREAS, Beloved for her warm heart and exuberant spirit, Eva Henley touched countless lives during her journey on this earth, and she will forever be remembered with admiration and affection by all those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Eva Henley and extend deepest sympathy to her family and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eva Henley.
