5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Eva Henley of San Angelo on September 24, 2016, at the |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Tullahoma, Tennessee, the former Eva |
---|
9 | 10 | | Hickerson was born on July 16, 1918, to the Reverend Julius |
---|
10 | 11 | | Hickerson and Anna Mae Coon Hickerson; she grew up in Commerce and |
---|
11 | 12 | | earned a bachelor's degree in 1937 from East Texas State University |
---|
12 | 13 | | before teaching home economics at Van High School; she later earned |
---|
13 | 14 | | a master's degree in religious education from Southwestern Baptist |
---|
14 | 15 | | Theological Seminary and taught English composition at Louisiana |
---|
15 | 16 | | Tech University while earning a master's degree in English from |
---|
16 | 17 | | that institution; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1938, she married the Reverend Dr. Truman |
---|
18 | 19 | | Aldredge, and the couple shared nearly three decades until his |
---|
19 | 20 | | passing in 1966; she was fortunate enough to find love again and |
---|
20 | 21 | | exchanged wedding vows with the Reverend Dr. Taylor Henley in 1968; |

21 | 22 | | she took great pride in her 2 daughters, Anne and Jann, as well as in |
---|
22 | 23 | | her 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and |

23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Henley moved with Dr. Henley to San Angelo, |
---|
24 | 25 | | where she taught English at Central High School for 25 years and |
---|
25 | 26 | | coached a number of award-winning UIL competitors; active in her |
---|
26 | 27 | | professional community as well as in civic affairs, she served as |
---|
27 | 28 | | president of the Texas Joint Council of Teachers of English and as a |
---|
28 | 29 | | board member for the United Way of San Angelo, and she frequently |
---|
29 | 30 | | contributed witty and inspirational op-eds to the San Angelo |
---|
30 | 31 | | Standard-Times; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, A woman of tremendous faith, Mrs. Henley held many |
---|
32 | 33 | | roles with First Baptist Church, serving on several committees, |
---|
33 | 34 | | teaching Sunday school, and acting in Christmas dramas; she and her |
---|
34 | 35 | | husband founded Missions Our Mission, through which they led dozens |
---|
35 | 36 | | of ministry trips to Ukraine and other countries; after Reverend |
---|
36 | 37 | | Henley's death in 2000, Mrs. Henley continued to lead and raise |
---|
37 | 38 | | money for mission trips; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Beloved for her warm heart and exuberant spirit, Eva |
---|
39 | 40 | | Henley touched countless lives during her journey on this earth, |
---|
40 | 41 | | and she will forever be remembered with admiration and affection by |
---|
41 | 42 | | all those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
---|
43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Eva Henley and extend |
---|
44 | 45 | | deepest sympathy to her family and friends; and, be it further |
---|
45 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

46 | 47 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
47 | 48 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eva Henley. |
