45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Eva Henley of San Angelo on September 24, 2016, at the
78 age of 98; and
89 WHEREAS, A native of Tullahoma, Tennessee, the former Eva
910 Hickerson was born on July 16, 1918, to the Reverend Julius
1011 Hickerson and Anna Mae Coon Hickerson; she grew up in Commerce and
1112 earned a bachelor's degree in 1937 from East Texas State University
1213 before teaching home economics at Van High School; she later earned
1314 a master's degree in religious education from Southwestern Baptist
1415 Theological Seminary and taught English composition at Louisiana
1516 Tech University while earning a master's degree in English from
1617 that institution; and
1718 WHEREAS, In 1938, she married the Reverend Dr. Truman
1819 Aldredge, and the couple shared nearly three decades until his
1920 passing in 1966; she was fortunate enough to find love again and
2021 exchanged wedding vows with the Reverend Dr. Taylor Henley in 1968;
2122 she took great pride in her 2 daughters, Anne and Jann, as well as in
2223 her 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and
2324 WHEREAS, Mrs. Henley moved with Dr. Henley to San Angelo,
2425 where she taught English at Central High School for 25 years and
2526 coached a number of award-winning UIL competitors; active in her
2627 professional community as well as in civic affairs, she served as
2728 president of the Texas Joint Council of Teachers of English and as a
2829 board member for the United Way of San Angelo, and she frequently
2930 contributed witty and inspirational op-eds to the San Angelo
3031 Standard-Times; and
3132 WHEREAS, A woman of tremendous faith, Mrs. Henley held many
3233 roles with First Baptist Church, serving on several committees,
3334 teaching Sunday school, and acting in Christmas dramas; she and her
3435 husband founded Missions Our Mission, through which they led dozens
3536 of ministry trips to Ukraine and other countries; after Reverend
3637 Henley's death in 2000, Mrs. Henley continued to lead and raise
3738 money for mission trips; and
3839 WHEREAS, Beloved for her warm heart and exuberant spirit, Eva
3940 Henley touched countless lives during her journey on this earth,
4041 and she will forever be remembered with admiration and affection by
4142 all those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Eva Henley and extend
4445 deepest sympathy to her family and friends; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eva Henley.
