| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, In an inspiring display of cooperation and hometown |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Located in a single school building, the district |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | has served the small town of Buckholts for nearly 130 years; |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | recently, the community learned that Buckholts ISD, which is funded |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | by a very limited budget, had begun to underperform and was at risk |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | of closure; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, This knowledge led to a concerted effort on the part |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | of a host of concerned citizens, including parents, retired |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | teachers, and community volunteers, who have stepped up to help in |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | any way they can; former teachers have come out of retirement to |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | help instruct students in algebra and English, and another |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | individual purchased gift cards to be awarded for the most improved |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | STAAR test scores; still others are volunteering to tutor where |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | needed, and the local Booster Club also lent its support to the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | campaign by sponsoring a raffle and hiring a deejay at football |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | games; the district has since experienced a 75 percent increase in |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | attendance at all football, volleyball, and basketball events; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The time and effort that these dedicated residents |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | have invested in Buckholts ISD have had a profound impact on teacher |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | morale, and student performance has likewise improved; moreover, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | students representing Buckholts ISD have made a superior showing at |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | recent UIL cross-country competitions and FFA stock shows, and a |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | parent teacher organization has been established to promote the |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | continued involvement of parents in the district; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, In only a short time, the outpouring of support from |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | the community has helped to revitalize Buckholts ISD, and all those |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | who have taken part in this worthwhile cause may take pride in their |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
