| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Georgetown Independent School District is |

| 6 | 7 | | celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2017; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, On February 27, 1917, the district was created by |

| 8 | 9 | | the Texas Legislature via passage of Senate Bill 225; Nolan Queen |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | served as superintendent for the inaugural school year, which |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | concluded with commencement exercises for a graduating class of 16 |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | young men and women; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The district employed 18 teachers in its second year |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | to instruct students in mathematics, history, science, geography, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | English, Latin, Spanish, and reading and writing; in the next |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | decade, the district implemented standardized testing, which was |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | becoming a common practice in school districts across the nation at |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | the time; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, By the 1970-1971 school year, Georgetown's |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | population exceeded 6,000; the growth of the community has |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | accelerated much more rapidly in recent years, and the district has |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | kept pace, fulfilling its commitment to provide a high-quality |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | education to area youth; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Georgetown ISD today serves over 11,000 students at |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | 10 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, and 2 |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | alternative campuses; promoting a safe, empowering, and inclusive |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | learning environment, it participates in the No Place for Hate |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | initiative of the Anti-Defamation League; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, For the past century, the Georgetown Independent |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | School District has provided generations of young people with a |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | strong academic foundation on which to build, and it is indeed a |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | pleasure to join in marking this important milestone in its |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | history; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
