| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Robin Battershell of the Temple Independent |

| 6 | 7 | | School District was named the 2016 Superintendent of the Year for |

| 7 | 8 | | Education Service Center Region 12 by the Texas Association of |

| 8 | 9 | | School Boards; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A native of Robinson, Robin Battershell earned her |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | bachelor's degree in elementary education at Texas Tech University |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and her master's degree in educational psychology at the University |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | of Houston; she began her career in 1980, first as a third grade |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | teacher in Houston and Pasadena before becoming a special education |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | counselor with the Bell County Cooperative for Exceptional |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Children; from 1985 to 1990, she worked for Killeen ISD in a variety |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | of administrative positions, including coordinator of Guidance, |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | coordinator of Special Programs, and interim director of Curriculum |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | and Instruction; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In 1990, Dr. Battershell began teaching as an |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | adjunct professor at the University of Mary Hardin–Baylor, and that |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | same year, she became the executive director of the Greater Fort |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Hood Communities in Schools; she earned her Ed.D. in administrative |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | leadership from Baylor University along the way, and in 1998, she |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | was appointed superintendent of Salado ISD; she excelled in that |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | position for 10 years before joining Temple ISD as superintendent |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | in 2008; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Robin Battershell's hard work and commitment to |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | excellence have made a positive difference in the lives of |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | countless Texas students for more than 35 years, and her receipt of |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | this prestigious accolade provides a fitting opportunity to |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | recognize her outstanding contributions to the Lone Star State; |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Robin Battershell for being |

| 35 | 36 | | named the 2016 Superintendent of the Year for Region 12 and extend |

| 36 | 37 | | to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
